Welcome to the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign (UIUC) Illinois Alt Protein Project, proudly affiliated with the Good Food Institute. We are at the forefront of inspiring the next generation of scientists and entrepreneurs dedicated to advancing healthy, sustainable, and just food systems through alternative protein research and innovation.
Our dynamic community has thrived through engaging events featuring insightful guest speakers from industry leaders like Mission Barns, WildType, and Livestock Labs to learn more about the alternative protein industry and encourage more students from the university to be more involved. Projects we have worked on include research designing plant-based scaffolds for cultivated seafood and developing a Cellular Agriculture Module for a Bioengineering Lab course. Additionally, we host social food events such as plant-based picnics and cooking plant-based meals to encourage others to implement more alternative proteins into their diets.
